66 ABG welcomes new commander

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. --  Col. Roman L. Hund assumed command of the 66th Air Base Group today during a change of command ceremony here.

Lt. Gen. John F. Thompson, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center commander, presided over the ceremony, in which Col. David R. Dunklee relinquished command.

“When I looked at all the candidates to be the 66th Air Base Group commander at Hanscom, one record jumped out to me above all others,” Thompson said. “It jumped out not only because of his outstanding performance throughout an entire career, but it also had program executive office experience and tremendous experience with customer service.”

As commander of the 66 ABG, Hund is responsible for securing, supporting and sustaining more than 5,000 active duty, Reserve and National Guard personnel, Defense Department civilians, contractors along with 130,000 retired military and spouses living in the six-state New England and New York area.

Hund most recently served as the chief of the Mission Partner Engagement Office for the Defense Information Systems Agency, Fort Meade, Maryland.

After taking command of the air base group, Hund thanked Thompson for the opportunity and addressed community members in attendance.

“I’m really humbled by the attendance at this ceremony today; to all the federal, state and local community leadership, your presence today speaks volumes of your support of the United States Air Force,” he said.

During the ceremony, Dunklee took the opportunity to recognize the dedication of the men and women of the group.

“I have known no finer team in my 22 years than the Airmen of the 66th Air Base Group,” Dunklee said. “It has been my honor to serve with this great team.”

Dunklee will become the vice commander of the 75th Air Base Wing, Hill Air Force Base, Utah.
