A father’s return
HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. - After more than 25 years, Joseph Ferrara visits the stone monument at Field 4, which was dedicated to his son, Airman 1st Class Joseph Ferrara Jr. Airman Ferrara was a member of the then-3245th Air Base Group Security Police Squadron and died while stationed in England on Jan. 20, 1985. While here, he coached Hanscom children involved in soccer, baseball and football leagues and was an avid participant in sports activities. Field 4 was dedicated in his memory on May 31, 1985. The plaque on the stone reads, “Joseph W. Ferrara Jr. Memorial Field with love from his family, friends and the 3245th SPS.” (U.S. Air Force photo by Rick Berry)
