Active shooter scenario tested during exercise

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Staff Sgt. Steven O’Mahoney gives directions to Tech Sgt. Timothy Gatherum during the active shooter exercise in Building 1605 on Aug. 19. In the wake of the tragic shootings that took place recently in a workplace setting in Connecticut, as well as last November at Fort Hood, Texas, bases throughout the military are evaluating their own procedures and capabilities for handling an active shooter, should such an event take place on their doorstep. This exercise was part of a series of exercises to test the readiness of many of Hanscom’s emergency services. (U.S. Air Force photo by Rick Berry)
