Remembering Sept. 11, 2001
HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. - Col. David Orr, 66th Air Base Wing commander, holds open the Flag of Honor during the Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony at Hanscom’s POW/MIA Memorial Park. Written on the flag is “This flag contains the names of those killed in the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Now and forever it will represent their immortality. We shall never forget them.” The Flag of Honor was created by John Michelotti after he recuperated from emergency bypass surgery. Faced with his mortality, he became sensitive to the fate of the victims and wanted to honor their individual lives. (U.S. Air Force photo by Linda LaBonte Britt)
