Digging Swale
David Little, Civil Engineering Heavy Equipment operator, uses a backhoe near the Motor Pool’s entrance to begin construction on a water quality swale. The swale, which was completed in late March, collects excess rain water and allows it to drain slowly -- reducing flooding on base and into the Shawsheen River. Cattails have been planted along the swale’s slopes to absorb pollutants in and improve the quality of the collected water that eventually drains into the river or seeps into the ground.
