Greening commutes
HANSCOM AFB, Mass. -- Dan Sanchez, 652nd Electronic Systems Squadron contractor, learns about carpooling options from Elliot Schmidt, outreach coordinator for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's MASSRIDES office, and Linda Arpino, 66th Mission Support Group Environmental office, at a commuter awareness booth in the Hanscom Base Exchange complex Sept. 10. Hanscom employees interested in public transportation or carpooling have several programs available to them. The Ride Matching program, which is run by the Environmental office, pairs employees with similar work schedules to facilitate carpooling. Vanpools are also available for larger commuter groups. Additionally, employees using public transportation may qualify for the Transportation Incentive Program -- a Department of Defense program that provides financial incentives to employees to encourage commuting by mass transportation.
