AFLCMC contracting deputy director set to retire Jan. 15

Lt. Col. Mike Sweeney and then – Lt. Col. Karen Landale pose after winning the Blue Horizons “clearest pitch” award. Blue Horizons is a U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff-chartered fellowship hosted by the Center for Strategy and Technology at Maxwell Air Force Base. The Blue Horizon’s mission is to identify and mature pathways across warfighting domains with a focus on strategy and technology. Fellows invest 10 months researching a topic posed directly by Department of the Air Force senior leadership that can potentially impact the Department’s operations. At the fellowship’s conclusion, ideas are presented to CSAF and the Vice Chief of Staff. Sweeney and Landale were selected to design an application that displayed local businesses selling commodities and services used during deployments. Similar to if Google Maps only displayed businesses the U.S. Air Force was interested in procuring from in combat zones. Former CSAF Goldfein approved and funded the concept in 2020. Recently, the BIZINT application was approved to enter the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System. If approved, the BIZINT application will be solidified as an enduring joint capability. (Courtesy Photo)
