HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – As part of the upcoming Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Focus Week, Hanscom's Engineering Directorate will be hosting "Hanscom Innovation Event 2017: Fostering a Culture of Innovation" on April 26 and 27.

The two-day event will showcase informational presentations about innovation "how to" and successes; demonstrations with examples of program/lab innovation successes; as well as poster board research exhibits on topics such as cyber resiliency and command and control for multi-domain operations. Sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in Building 1612.

“We had great success with last year’s Innovation Event, so this year we expanded it and tried to focus it on current topics that we knew would be of interest to our workforce,” said Ed Lee, Engineering Resources chief.

Each day there will be a keynote presentation. On April 26, Brig. Gen. Mitchel H. Butikofer, 24th Air Force vice commander, will speak on the “Air Force Warfighter Perspective,” while on April 27, Dr. Ken Gabriel, Draper Laboratory president and chief executive officer, will talk about the “Disciplined Innovation Approach.”

Other presentations include an overview of MIT Lincoln Laboratory and some of their work, such as “Balloon Based Communications” and “Micro UAV Development and Testing” on April 26. In addition, that day will feature presentations on cyber resiliency and cyber assets, multi-domain command and control, and nuclear command, control and communications.

April 27 includes presentations from MITRE on rapid innovation while Defense Innovation Unit Experimental, or DIUx, personnel will address “Disruptive Capability @ Speed.” Other presenters will showcase “AF C4ISR Other Transaction Authority,” and “Accelerating Innovation Relevant to National Security via Human-Centered Networks.”

The demonstrations will highlight a variety of areas including “Tactical Data Comms,” “Combat Cloud/Aerial Networks,” “Cyber Mission Thread Analysis” and “HCIC Initiatives.”

There will also be an "Innovation Roundtable" at the event's culmination, where personnel can participate in an interactive discussion focused on successful innovation strategies, lessons and insights from key program leaders and community innovators to address Air Force program challenges.

“This is a great opportunity for personnel from various locations to exchange information that will look at new ideas and strategies for combating Air Force challenges,” said Lee. “We hope Hanscom personnel take advantage of it.”
