Welcome to the Hanscom Innovation Team page. The Innovation Team helps propel organizational culture shifts within the Hanscom acquisition community and works to expand the innovation footprint throughout the installation. Hanscom is located near numerous higher education, industry and nonprofit organizations, and the Innovation Team actively pursues mutually beneficial partnerships with these groups. With the support of various partners, Hanscom has accomplished a great deal in the areas of small business outreach, small business innovation research, workforce development, infrastructure and energy efficiency projects. The Hanscom Innovation Team is focused on sustaining these partnerships and helping to develop new ones.

  • MIT partnership helps acquisition officer expand toolkit

    The Department of the Air Force-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Artificial Intelligence Accelerator is helping acquisition professionals better understand AI and how to incorporate it into Air Force programs.
  • Proven accelerator program welcomes second cohort

    With a tested model in place, organizers of The U.S. Air Force Lab with MassChallenge program, a two-year pilot project designed to increase non-traditional participation in Small Business Innovative Research program opportunities, announced its second cohort March 30. Atomic-6, BoatBox Technologies, CorePower Magnetics, Inergy, Kinnami Software, Measure Global, OxbyEl Technologies, Particle.One, Rhoman Aerospace, and Sentenai Inc. make up the second group to benefit from the specialized mentorship and support offered by MassChallenge and Air Force experts.
  • Panel of experts talk future of defense

    The Middlesex 3 Coalition, a non-profit organization focused on economic and workforce development, hosted a virtual Future of Defense roundtable with U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton via Zoom Feb. 10. Moulton kicked off the discussion with a brief overview of the report produced by the Future of Defense Task Force, which he co-chaired in 2020. The task force was established to investigate and assess how to address complex emerging threats, retain economic and military competitiveness, and develop a “whole-of-nation approach” that embraces emerging technology and “harnesses ingenuity and innovation” from the private sector.
  • Cyber fellowship sparks innovative ideas

    Personnel from the Air Force Life Cycle Management Digital Directorate and Detachment 12’s Kessel Run are using their recent AFVentures Cyber Fellowship experiences to promote innovation and accelerate change within their programs. Kevin Kelly, technical director for PEO Digital, Capt. Lillian Warner, Red Team lead for Cyber Security Engineering at Kessel Run, and 1st Lt. Greg Barrow, project manager for Unit Level Intelligence at Kessel Run, were among the first cyber cohort of 17 service members selected for the program. Fellows were matched to technology companies based in San Francisco; Los Angeles; Ann Arbor, Michigan; New York and Boston for a six-week virtual immersion October through November 2020.
