Free tax services available

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Tax season has arrived and trained volunteers are available to provide free tax filing services to service members at Hanscom and the surrounding community.

Active duty, Guard, Reserve and retired military members of any service, and their dependents, are eligible to file at no cost, pending the availability of volunteers.

The Tax Center, operated by the 66th Air Base Group Legal Office and Mass. National Guard Legal Office, will operate at the Massachusetts National Guard Joint Force Headquarters located on base. The Tax Center staff can prepare simple 1040s, 1040As, 1040EZs, Schedules A, B, EIC, and R, along with other forms and worksheets.

The Tax Center will accept clients by appointments only beginning Feb. 6 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Walk-in appointments are not available.

Taxpayers must bring hardcopies of all W2s/1099-Rs, interest statements, dividend statements, brokerage statements and complete documentation for any deduction or adjustment, along with a copy of last year’s tax return.
