AtHoc emergency notification system available

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Members of the workforce are encouraged to use AtHoc, an interactive warning system that allows senior leaders to inform base personnel of urgent information such as base closures or delayed openings.

The system notifies users via phone call, text message or email. Messages are sent through the same mass alert system that provides pop-up notifications to personnel through desktop workstations.

“Signing up early for AtHoc is critically important because it allows the Command Post to efficiently push information quickly when needed,” said Tech. Sgt. Christopher Williams, NCO in charge of the Command Post. “The best example is during winter weather events when notifying members of the workforce of base status is time-sensitive.”

Personnel interested in utilizing AtHoc should input or update their information in the system by providing home, cell phone and emergency contact numbers and email addresses, according to their communication preferences. These individuals will normally be notified between 4 and 5 a.m. in the event of extreme weather.

Instructions for adding or updating contact information in the AtHoc system:

1. On a government computer, click the AtHoc icon (“purple globe” on the right side of the taskbar) and select "Update my Profile."

2. A secure Internet Explorer page will appear. Here users can update their personal information.

Additionally, in this window, personnel can “Opt-In” and select choices such as unit commander or facility manager to receive specific notifications targeted to those personnel. Individuals can also “Opt-Out” of specific notifications including weather advisories and watches, wind warnings or heat stress conditions.

3. Be advised that each field in which data is provided can be used for notifications, per the commander's discretion. Participants requesting text message alerts should know that they will not be reimbursed for any text messaging charges incurred.

4. Click the Save button in the upper right corner when finished. Please note that work email address and after hours phone contact number are mandatory in order to update your information.

In addition to AtHoc, base personnel have other options to find out quickly regarding the status of emergencies, inclement weather delays or closures. Those include the Hanscom public website at www.Hanscom.af.mil, Facebook, the pyramid alert system or the COLD line at 781-225-COLD (2653).
