HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Air Force Materiel Command announced earlier this month that the 66th Security Forces Squadron here is once again the command’s best Outstanding Small Size Security Forces Unit recipient.

"The men and women in this squadron are incredibly professional and laser-focused on the Security Forces mission,” said Maj. Brett Skates, 66 SFS commander. “They are responsible for the squadron’s success and I am exceptionally proud of them for their accomplishment.”

Among the many notable achievements highlighted in the award citation was a response last summer to potential explosive material at the Vandenberg Gate, which resulted in a seven-agency response action.

“The rapid response by our Defenders and their seamless coordination with multiple agencies ensured Hanscom personnel remained safe during this five-hour event that gained national exposure,” said Skates. “The people in this squadron are superbly trained to respond to a variety of situations and that was showcased during the incident.”

In addition, the squadron swept the individual military categories of the 66th Air Base Group Annual Awards held earlier this year. The squadron captured the Airman, noncommissioned, senior noncommissioned, company grade officer and team of the year categories.

The Military Working Dog Section was also lauded for their support to numerous senior leader visits to the six-state New England region.

Also highlighted in the citation was the participation by many junior and senior enlisted members in force development programs such as the First Term Airman Course and Airman Leadership School, as well as active involvement in private organizations such as the Chief’s Group, Patriot Enlisted Association, Top Three and others.

The command win for SFS is the third in a row for the squadron. The unit will now compete for best small-sized squadron in the Air Force, an award they won in 2015.
