HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – A senior airman from the 66th Comptroller Squadron here is the Air Force’s Financial Management Airman of the Year for 2017.

Senior Airman Kenneth McGuire, a financial analysis technician, has been making an impact since he first arrived at Hanscom Air Force Base in 2015.

“There are so many great Airmen in the financial management community that are accomplishing so many great things, so to be considered among the best is truly a privilege,” McGuire said.

McGuire’s award package highlighted his accomplishments on and off duty.

“Senior Airman McGuire embodies the Air Force core values of integrity, service before self and excellence in all he does,” said Maj. Chris Spaulding, 66 CPTS commander. “He is always seeking ways to improve himself, the squadron and the base and local community where he lives.”

In his position, McGuire is responsible for certifying the availability of funds, processing the disbursal of payments and performing audits to ensure that funds are being utilized responsibly and efficiently.

“Airman McGuire has implemented several initiatives during his tenure at Hanscom that have resulted in significant cost and time savings,” said Spaulding. “He has identified discrepancies, improved processes and worked to provide funds for Air Force Life Cycle Management Center programs.”

Among his other accomplishments emphasized in the nomination included being a star performer during last summer’s Unit Effectiveness Inspection.

McGuire also earned his Community College of the Air Force degree and was awarded a scholarship during the commencement ceremony to continue with his education.

After arriving in 2015, McGuire sought out an opportunity to give back to the local community through a local food pantry.

“The Bedford Community Table/Pantry, a local 501 (c)(3) provides meals each Thursday night to those in need, including veterans,” McGuire said. “Each week I recruit volunteers from Hanscom to help serve meals from 5 to 6:30 p.m.”

He also was selected to promote early to senior airman early through the below-the-zone program.

As vice president of the local Patriot Enlisted Association chapter, he organized a writing seminar for members that improved skills for Airmen and is also credited with raising funds for programs that benefit junior enlisted members at Hanscom.

He was also named the 66th Air Base Group Airman of the Year in March 2017.
