HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The 66th Civil Engineering Division is required to submit an annual Consumer Confidence Report, also known as a CCR, to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, known as MassDEP, no later than July 1 each year.

The water system at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., violated one drinking water standard during the past year. In 2017, personnel missed the deadline and submitted the 2016 CCR to MassDEP on July 7, 2017. As a result, MassDEP issued a Notice of Non-Compliance. CE is required within one year of that notice to inform consumers of this violation.

As customers, base residents and the workforce have a right to know what happened and what the 66th Civil Engineering Division did to correct the situation.

What should I do?

There is nothing base residents or workforce members must do at this time.

The 2016 CCR that was due to MassDEP July 1, 2017 was released to base residents on June 19, 2017. However, the CCR to MassDEP was late. This violation was not the result of contaminants found in the drinking water but an administrative oversight. There was no threat to public health.

A copy of the 2016 CCR is available at www.hanscom.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1217442/2016-annual-drinking-water-quality-report/.

What happened? What is being done?

In response to the Notice of Noncompliance, CE committed to providing a timely annual water report to MassDEP. The most recent report, 2017 CCR, met the deadline. CE officials have taken steps to update internal processes to ensure reporting is accomplished as required.
