Shooting competition open to military members

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – 66th Security Forces Squadron officials will host an Excellence in Competition Shooting Match here Feb. 19 through 22 for military members.

The match will feature the M9 pistol on Feb. 19 and 20 and the M16 rifle on Feb. 21 and 22. Competition each day will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the indoor Combat Arms Training Center.

“This competition allows service members at Hanscom to become more proficient with firearms while competing in a friendly environment,” said Staff Sgt. Tyler Kliss, 66 SFS combat arms instructor. “Members are invited to participate in one category or both.”

Two-hour time blocks will run throughout the day with seven shooters each block. The last two-hour block will begin at 4 p.m.

“Scopes, personal sights, gloves and mats will not be allowed,” Kliss said.

Top 10 percent finishers will earn the Non National Bronze Badge to wear on their service dress uniform.
