HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Army and Air Force Exchange Service, in cooperation with the Department of the Air Force, announces the availability of a draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for the proposed relocation and upgrade of AAFES services here.

The Preferred Alternative is to relocate the AAFES Express Class Six facility and the Service Station and Auto Parts Store from their current locations to the existing AAFES Main Exchange. The Main Exchange would also receive an interior image upgrade.

These improvements would be consistent with AAFES goals and mission and would increase the adequacy of these services for base personnel. It would also allow for the co-location of AAFES services in a pedestrian-friendly, one-stop shopping environment.

AAFES will return the vacated facilities to Hanscom AFB following the relocation of AAFES services. Base officials have made no decision as to the future of these facilities.

The draft EA and FONSI address the site-specific impacts of consolidating the AAFES owned and operated facility and evaluate the consequences of the proposed action and alternatives on the natural and man-made environments. Any impacts related to the proposed action are anticipated to be minor and best management practices provided in the Draft EA/FONSI would further reduce any impacts.

Copies of the draft EA and FONSI are available for review and download at https://www.hanscom.af.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/379486/civil-engineering/.
