HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – A team from the Digital Directorate here received the Technical Management Team Award during the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center annual Engineering Awards at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, Feb. 19.

The Intelligence Processing and Data Relay Branch at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, received the award for delivering “unprecedented intelligence, data relay and command and control capabilities across three programs.”

“The Intelligence Processing and Data Relay Branch is greatly honored to have been selected as the recipient of this distinguished award in recognition of the branch’s significant achievements in support of the warfighter through the performance of mission-driven technical innovation,” said Steven Spund, an acquisition program manager and member of the team.

The Technical Management Team Award recognizes outstanding team contributions or achievements of personnel working in production, manufacturing, quality assurance, data management, configuration management, operational research, test and evaluation, program management, analysis, research and development or environment, safety and occupational health.

Presenting the award to the Digital Directorate team was Col. Vincent Chioma, deputy director of Engineering at Hanscom.

“I’m very proud of the Hanscom team for receiving this award,” he said. “It’s great recognition of the work they have done throughout the year.”

Eighteen awards recognized teams and individuals who have demonstrated excellence in engineering.

“I want to say thank you to the members of the science, engineering and technical management community because you deliver airpower for America from your technical excellence,” said Thomas Fischer, AFLCMC director of Engineering and Technical Management Services.

In total, there were more than 140 individual nominations and more than 400 people nominated in two team categories.

“These are awards that are offered and decided on by the engineering community, so this really is engineers recognizing members of our own profession,” Chioma said.

Approximately 25 AFLCMC-Hanscom engineers listened to the ceremony from Wright-Patterson AFB via VTC at the Hanscom Conference Center.
