HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Base officials announced they will ease some indoor and outdoor capacity limits here consistent with state guidelines effective March 22.

The decision comes after Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker announced the Commonwealth will advance to Step 2, Phase III of the state’s reopening plan beginning March 1, with plans to continue onto Step 1, Phase IV March 22.

“The gathering capacity increases will allow for some ceremonies and events, like retirements, to take place with COVID-19 protocols in place,” said Randy Robertson, installation Crisis Action Team director.

Per the updated directive, outdoor gathering at Hanscom will not exceed 150 individuals, and indoor gatherings will not exceed 10 individuals per 1,000 square feet. Retail and business locations on Hanscom will be limited to 50 percent capacity.

According to the CAT, an indoor gathering is a planned event held in a common area, meeting room, auditorium, or residence, and does not include day-to-day business or office work. Hanscom personnel will continue to work remotely to the fullest extent possible unless directed by their chain of command.

The directive also lists an increase of capacity for some 66th Force Support Squadron facilities.

“Beginning March 15, the Hanscom Fitness and Sports Center will increase to 50 percent capacity, allowing for 68 total patrons at a time,” said Capt. Shaun Berger, 66 FSS Sustainment Management Services Flight chief.

Berger said patrons must continue to sign up for a workout shift in advance at https://www.waitlist.me/w/11690700018. Users should select “Make Reservation,” and enter date and time. Reservations can be made up to one week in advance with a limit of one workout shift per day.

Other FSS-run organizations such as the Minuteman Commons, the base conference center, Outdoor Recreation, and Fourth Cliff are increasing capacities. A complete list of facilities and current restrictions can be found at www.HanscomFSS.com.
