HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Hanscom’s new director of occupational safety will ensure the health, safety and well-being of employees and visitors here remains a top priority during his tenure.

Christopher “Chris” Herrmann will oversee installation safety inspections and policy, risk management processes, and develop procedures to ensure a safe work environment at Hanscom AFB.

“I’m here to support our people to accomplish the mission, have fun doing it and make sure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day,” said the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, native.

Herrmann, who has been on the job since April 19, looks forward to immersing himself in the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s mission.

“My hope is that the [Hanscom] community will look at the Safety Office as a mission partner to protect our facilities, environment and resources, and most importantly, our people,” he said.

Herrmann comes to Hanscom after previously serving as flight safety inspector at U.S. Central Command in Florida, and deputy chief of safety for Air Force Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

Before cross-training into the occupational safety career field in 2010, Herrmann served as a C-130 Hercules pilot.

Herrmann said that while he flew through Hanscom many times as a pilot, he is now looking forward to exploring the history of the local area with his wife, and visiting family throughout New England.

“We love Revolutionary War history, so to be here in the middle of all of it is really exciting,” he said.
