HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management Center of Excellence will host its 2021 CNS/ATM Working Group as an entirely online experience, featuring senior leaders from the Federal Aviation Administration, Headquarters Air Force and the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center.

Set to take place in two segments, June 7-10 and June 22-23, the event will build on last year’s virtual Working Group, taking advantage of the strengths of an online environment while bridging the gap to a planned return to an in-person event in 2022, according to Craig Hodgdon, CNS/ATM CoE chief engineer.

This informational forum for military aircraft program offices and other CNS/ATM stakeholders will highlight emerging technologies and current issues in meeting civil airspace requirements driven by the International Civil Aviation Organization, FAA and other civil aviation authorities.

“The annual CNS/ATM Working Group is the largest collaboration of DOD services, FAA and industry participants focused on ensuring safe and efficient access to global airspace for our warfighters,” Hodgdon said. “The sharing of new technical developments, advanced analysis techniques, global standards evolution, and United States and international airspace strategy directions enables engineers and decision-makers to keep the DOD aircraft fleet at the forefront of civil airspace access.”

Introductory briefings will feature the topics of communication, navigation and surveillance for attendees new to the community, as well as CNS/ATM overview perspectives from the stakeholder services, including the Air Force, Army and Navy.

Additional information sessions will focus on CNS/ATM hot topics: Policy Board on Federal Aviation, or PBFA; Positioning, Navigation and Timing Modernization, or PNT; avionics cyber and more. Among the notable speakers will be the FAA’s Paul Fontaine; Col. Daniel Furleigh from HAF; and Joe Bradley, director of the Cyber Resiliency Office for Weapon Systems.

For those with a government Common Access Card, registration is open for this year’s Working Group through the new CNS/ATM Storefront website. Non-CAC holders should email cns-atm.working_group@us.af.mil for registration instructions.
