HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Base officials will host a Salute to Veterans ceremony Nov. 10 at 8:30 a.m. at the conference center here to honor 100 local veterans.

This year’s ceremony will feature Col. Katrina Stephens, installation commander, as the guest speaker.

“Veterans Day is a day set aside to thank all those who have served in the military honorably during wartime and in peace,” said Bobby Jacques, the event’s organizer.

The event, first held on base in 2011, will include a person formation of currently-serving Airmen who will salute each veteran after their names are read aloud.

The ceremony will also include readings of “I am the Flag” and “In Flanders Fields.”

Veterans Day, observed annually on Nov. 11, honors military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Originally called “Armistice Day,” Veterans Day was originally created to commemorate the end of World War I.

Following the ceremony, honorees will attend a guided historical tour of Boston.
