HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Base officials will host the 12th annual Salute to Veterans ceremony Nov. 9 at 8:30 a.m. at the conference center here to recognize local veterans.

This year’s ceremony will feature Col. Taona Enriquez, 66th Air Base Group and installation commander, as the guest speaker.

“Veterans Day is a day when we honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the nation we all love,” said Bobby Jacques, the event’s organizer and retired chief master sergeant.

Any veteran with base access is invited to attend. Those interested in being recognized are asked to RSVP to Jacques at robert.jacques@us.af.mil.

A formation of Team Hanscom Airmen will salute each veteran after their names are read aloud.

Veterans Day, observed annually on Nov. 11, honors military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Originally called “Armistice Day,” Veterans Day was originally created to commemorate the end of World War I.

Following the ceremony, 50 honorees will attend a guided historical tour of Boston.

Base officials will also host a Military Retiree Appreciation event earlier in November for military retirees from all branches of the armed forces.
