HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The 66th Medical Squadron here will observe Dental Assistants Recognition Week March 5 through 11.

The annual observance recognizes the support provided by those personnel.

“From the dentist perspective, it would not be possible to deliver the highest quality dental care without the professionalism and dedication of the staff,” said Lt. Col. Nicole Catarino, 66th Medical Squadron Dental Flight commander. “We are truly grateful for all they do every day.”

According to the American Dental Assistants Association, the recognition week theme for 2023 is “The ♥ of Dental Offices Through Education, Commitment, & Safety.”

Dental assistants are members of the dental operations team who schedule appointments, set up for and assist with dental procedures, as well as other duties.

To show their appreciation, 66 MDS leaders will host luncheons, off-base team activities, and morale events for Hanscom dental assistants.

“The responsibilities of a dental assistant include helping patients improve their oral hygiene and making patients feel comfortable,” said Master Sgt. Brylie Button, 66 MDS Dental Flight chief. “A dental assistant is trained to perform all functions, a jack of all trades.”
