HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The 66th Force Support Squadron here operates a year-round family campground in Bedford, Massachusetts, for military-connected personnel.

The location offers 73 recreational vehicle and 10 tent sites for active-duty service members, members of the National Guard or Reserve, military retirees or dependents, Department of Defense cardholders and their families.

“FamCamp offers all the amenities of a large campground at much less the cost,” said Heather Colson, FSS Outdoor Recreation Programs manager.

FamCamp employees recently completed a self-help revitalization effort to upgrade the recreation room and office space.

“With the recent completion of this project, we have improved the camping experience for those who visit,” said Jenn Hassey, FamCamp manager.

According to Colson, one of the many benefits of staying at the facility is location.

“Boston is only 18 miles east of Hanscom Air Force Base and offers a lot of activities throughout the year, especially during the summer months,” she said.

FamCamp offers full RV hookup, partial RV hookup and basic camping sites.

Staff also have tent and other camping packages available through the FamCamp office and Outdoor Recreation that employees will have setup on-site when you arrive. FamCamp also offer a covered pavilion for campers and Hanscom AFB units to host social events this summer.

In December 2022, Department of the Air Force officials issued an extended stay waiver process to eligible personnel.

“Installation commanders now have authority to approve extended stays beyond 180 days,” said Colson. “This decision was made to meet the needs of the military community during the ongoing housing crisis.”

Hanscom AFB FamCamp is located three miles outside of the base, surrounded by the towns of Lexington, Concord, and Lincoln. There are many local historical attractions and activities to take advantage of while staying at FamCamp.
