HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Air Force officials have selected 9,000 senior airmen for promotion to staff sergeant, including four assigned here, out of 51,717 eligible.

“Congratulations to our exceptional Airmen who have been selected for promotion to staff sergeant,” said Chief Master Sgt. Alan Weary, installation command chief. “As you move forward in your career, remember that you are not only representing yourselves but also inspiring others to reach greatness.”

The competitive selection rate comes on the heels of a July 2022 announcement by the Department of the Air Force that there would be realignment in the grades of E-5 through E-7 to balance and increase experience within the NCO tier.

“We value the experience Airmen bring to their work centers and we want to ensure we are aligning our enlisted force grade structure appropriately,” said Lt. Gen. Caroline Miller, deputy chief of staff for Manpower, Personnel, and Services, last summer. “Although this news may be discouraging for some, this revision is absolutely needed and allows us to grow the Air Force our nation needs.”

Congratulations to the following Hanscom personnel selected for promotion:

Senior Airman Alexis Cardenas, 66th Medical Squadron

Senior John Knight, Acquisition Intel Division

Senior Airman Alex Rincon, 66th Force Support Squadron

Senior Airman Ling Yu, 66th Comptroller Squadron
