HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Effective Oct. 28, the Fitness and Sports Center here will implement new operating hours.

The facility will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and closed on weekends and holidays. Only individuals registered for 24/7 access are allowed to enter the facility after-hours.

“Our goal has always been to provide world-class customer service as well as fitness and sports programs, and that will continue,” said Paul Shoesmith, Fitness and Sports Center director.

According to base officials, changes will not impact the Fitness Assessment Cell. Fitness assessments will continue to be available during regular FAC testing hours, Monday through Friday.

While hours will be reduced, Shoesmith encourages eligible personnel to take advantage of the 24/7 access by registering at the center’s front desk.

“All personnel interested in 24/7 access must first sign a Statement of Understanding, a prerequisite to using the facility during closed hours, prior to taking advantage of this benefit,” said Shoesmith.

FSS officials suggest people not work out alone.

Eligible users include active duty military and their dependents age 18 and older, federal civilians, nonappropriated fund employees, National Guard and Reserve service members, as well as military and civilian retirees.

The only areas restricted with 24/7 access are the climbing wall and saunas in the restrooms.
