Veterans to be honored at local observances

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Base personnel are invited to attend local Veterans Day observances honoring military service Nov. 11.

The following are a sampling of events taking place in the local area.

Concord Veterans Day Flag Retirement Ceremony

The town of Concord will host their annual Veterans Day flag retirement ceremony at 8 a.m. at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Col. Taona Enriquez and Chief Master Sgt. Alan Weary, installation commander and command chief, will represent Hanscom Air Force Base at the event. The ceremony will begin with a procession, which will assemble at the Pritchard Gate entrance on Bedford Street at 7:45 a.m.

During the ceremony, the Concord Fire Department will retire worn American flags collected from town residents.

Lexington Veterans Day Breakfast and Auto Parade

Lexington will host a Veterans’ Breakfast and Auto Parade Nov. 11, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 177 Bedford Street. The event will consist of breakfast and a short ceremony with various speakers.

Maj. Gen. Anthony Genatempo, program executive officer for Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence and Networks, Enriquez and Weary are slated to be Hanscom AFB’s representatives.

Following the ceremony, parade participants will line up in their decorated, privately-owned vehicles and conduct an Auto Parade through the center of town to the Lexington Community Center on Marrett Road. The parade departs from the Knights of Columbus Hall at approximately 11 a.m. and is scheduled to conclude at noon.

Bedford Veterans Day Ceremony

Bedford’s annual Veterans Day ceremony will take place Nov. 11 at noon at Veterans Memorial Park on Great Road. Genatempo, Enriquez, and Weary will once again represent Hanscom AFB.

The ceremony will include remarks from local officials, a wreath-laying ceremony, and music by the Bedford High School Marching Band.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Bedford High School auditorium.
