HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The 66th Security Forces Squadron reminds base personnel that food delivery and ride-share services are available on the installation.

The program allows individuals the option to utilize Uber ride-shares for transportation to and from the installation or have food delivered from off-base locations to residences or workplaces on the installation.

In 2022, the 66th Security Forces Squadron vetted and registered several drivers before each program's debut.

“This ensured there was a robust pool of drivers available for base personnel,” said Brandon Johnson, 66 SFS Plans and Programs chief.

According to SFS officials, only vetted drivers are allowed on base.

The opportunity to be vetted for base access is available to any person registered as an Uber ride-share driver. Once employment is confirmed, additional steps will be provided through the Uber app to apply for the Hanscom AFB ride-share, as well as instructions on how to be cleared for an ID here.

“This is a great way to keep our Airmen and families connected to the local community while also ensuring we have safe and reliable transportation for our people,” said Col. Taona Enriquez, installation commander, when introducing the program to the workforce during a commander’s call last year.

The process is similar for Uber Eats drivers as it is for ride-share drivers. Once employment is confirmed, additional steps will be required through the Uber app.

“Drivers with existing base access, including service members, dependents, or retirees, must obtain a separate credential specific to their role,” said Johnson. “Passengers, too, require base access credentials or a base sponsor for entry, enhancing accountability and security measures.”
