Changing careers and leaving the service are no easy matters. Master Sgt. Carlos R. Cameron Torres, Northeastern Massachusetts line recruiter and Hanscom Air Force Base in-service recruiter, understands the challenges active-duty Airmen face as they walk through the process of separating from the Air Force.

"It's a tough time," Sergeant Cameron said. "But there are also opportunities to be mined from the experience."

That's why the Air Force Reserve placed in-service recruiters like Sergeant Cameron at Hanscom and many other Air Force installations across the globe. As separating Airmen march through the out-processing procedure, Sergeant Cameron's briefing about the Air Force Reserve is part of the program.

During the briefing, which lasts approximately 30 minutes, Sergeant Cameron shares information about opportunities to transition from the regular Air Force into the Air Force Reserve through the Palace Chase and Palace Front programs. The Palace Chase program engages Airmen interested in leaving before their contracted separation date; Palace Front is for Airmen leaving the service at the actual end of their service contract.

"With both programs, the greatest hurdle is education -- letting separating Airmen know that the Air Force Reserve may be part of their future employment plans," Sergeant Cameron said. "Once I've had an opportunity to make them aware of what's available, and if they are eligible, then the sky's really the limit."

In addition, Sergeant Cameron said openings exist across the Air Force Reserve for air reserve technicians. Air reserve technicians serve as both federal civilian workers and Airmen.

"ARTs are critical cogs in the reserve machine. And we need them now," Sergeant Cameron said.

Sergeant Cameron's briefings take place on the first Tuesday of every month at 2 p.m. For more information call (781) 377-7883. Airmen can also call the sergeant on his cell phone at (781) 645-2211.
