Snow removal procedures for housing residents Published Jan. 16, 2009 By Rhonda Siciliano 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- In the interest of safety, housing residents are reminded that they must remove snow and ice from their driveways, and walkways, within 24 hours after snowfall has stopped. Resident's area of responsibility extends to the midpoint between adjacent buildings, to the curb of any road, and 50 feet out in any open area. End units and corner lot units are responsible for 50 feet from their unit or half way between the next adjacent unit. The Landings at Hanscom ground crews will clear streets, garage areas, and common sidewalks in the housing areas, as well as areas belonging to vacant units. Common areas in the row garage and overflow parking areas will be cleared after the streets. The 66th Security Forces Squadron will enforce "no on-street parking" violations in housing this winter. If snow is forecasted, or a sufficient amount of snow has fallen, signs will be posted at the entrance to housing reminding residents that they should not park on the street. A flashing red light at each entrance will help to draw attention to the message. In the event of a winter storm, all vehicle owners should move their vehicles to off-street parking as soon as possible. Families of deployed service members should contact the Landings at Hanscom for snow removal services. Documentation of the deployment must be given to the Landings at Hanscom office, prior to being added to the deployed listing. The service member must notify the Property Management Office immediately upon their return from the deployment, to terminate these services. These services are not provided for families of deployed service members if the family leaves on a vacation or when choosing to temporarily stay with extended family, during the deployment. Ice melt is available at self help, located at 101 North Bridge Road. For more information contact the Landings at Hanscom staff at (781) 861-5062.
