Members of the Army's 101st Airborne Division came to Hanscom recently to discuss its operations in Iraq and to complete work with an Electronic Systems Center team that provided significant intelligence assistance.

The Ground Moving Target Indication Cell in ESC's 753rd Intelligence Squadron provided warfighter support to the 101st Airborne Division in Iraq between November 2005 and September 2006 by analyzing historical GMTI data in select areas of interest, said Lt. Col. David Mork, squadron commander.

"This was a great example of ISR [Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance] integration in action," Colonel Mork said.

The procedures used and their results were briefed to the Secretary of the Air Force last month, and the squadron's Air Force and MITRE team won Hanscom's Large Team of the Quarter Award this past quarter in large part because of these efforts.

The team maintained day-to-day contact with the 101st through its intelligence collection manager, Army Capt. Stan Goligowski. Captain Goligowski, along with Chief Warrant Officer Bill Deruelle, visited ESC to complete a joint after action report.

The work was jointly funded by MITRE, the 551st Electronic Systems Wing, and the Joint-Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization.

During the visit, Captain Goligowski presented an overview of his experiences as an ISR collections manager in Iraq and touched on the direct contribution provided by the 753rd IS to the successful conduct of the 101st's mission there.

On Nov. 14, the 101st's representatives met and exchanged coins with ESC leaders, including Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Art Rooney.
