Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. – Senior Executive Service member, Charles Anthony Braswell, director of contracting, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio visited the Hanscom Air Force Base contracting workforce last week.

It was Braswell’s last stop prior to his October retirement following four decades of federal service. His last position prior to relocating to Ohio was at Hanscom Air Force Base in a similar role.

A picnic with the contracting workforce at Hanscom provided an opportunity to connect with former colleagues and pass on tokens of appreciation.

“This was an opportunity to influence, collaborate, and build a better future for Air Force contracting,” Braswell said of his career at the picnic. “You are the most important part of the mission. The mission doesn’t get done without you.”

Braswell has led a 2,100-person workforce while overseeing more than $45 billion in annual contract obligations. This workforce is located across multiple geographically separated units and provides the necessary resources to organize, train and equip.

Anna Morris, contracting chief, spoke of how Braswell mentored her and listened to those under his authority.

“Our directorate would not have been successful if not for you,” Morris said.

Braswell supports all Air Force program executive officers on a variety of weapons systems platforms and programs including manned and unmanned aircraft platforms, command, control, communication, intelligence and networks, battle management systems, digital platforms, major service acquisitions, air munitions, propulsion, cyber security, business systems and multiple federally funded research and development centers.

He is the contract clearance approval authority on all actions greater than $250 million and has managed the execution of more than $1 billion for industrial base medical production capacity expansion.
