HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The 66th Force Support Squadron Fitness and Sports Center here is rolling out four new initiatives soon to better serve the community.

These initiatives, starting at the end of September, aim to provide customers with enhanced tools and resources to meet their fitness goals.

New Operating Hours

Beginning Sept. 30, the Fitness and Sports Center staff have updated hours.

Staff will be on duty Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sundays, holidays, and outside posted hours, there will be no staff on duty. Only authorized patrons with 24/7 access will be able to use the facility during these times.

 Data-Driven Workouts

We’re taking the next step by introducing scientific methodology to fitness,” said Paul Shoesmith, Fitness and Sports Center director. “The key question we’re helping patrons answer are: ‘What is my body doing? Where do I want to go? And how do I get it there?’”

Staff will be able to measure a patron’s body fat percentage, upper and lower body strength, oxygen intake, and other metrics.

This diagnostic testing provides a scientifically based approach to help patrons assess their fitness levels and create personalized plans.

“This allows us to offer patrons the opportunity to see where they are and create a plan to get where they want to go,” said Shoesmith.

 Virtual Fitness Classes

The second-floor spin room will soon offer regularly scheduled virtual exercise classes projected on a 120-inch screen. Over 1,000 classes are available, covering topics such as kickboxing, yoga, walking, running, and strength training.

“If you can’t make a scheduled class, you can sign out the room and take the class when it is convenient to you,” said Shoesmith.

The virtual classes are only available while staff are present.

Climbing Class Returns

Finally, the indoor climbing wall class will return at 10 a.m. on Saturdays, the class will be available for patrons interested in learning or improving their climbing skills.
