HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – More than 70 candidates were offered jobs during an Air Force Life Cycle Management Center hiring fair held earlier this year.

AFLCMC hosted the event to fill 100 vacant positions in its program executive offices at Hanscom AFB. More than 400 job seekers attended the two-day event, and 211 interviews were conducted.

“An advantage of the fair is the ability to interview qualified candidates and make job offers on the spot through the direct-hire authority,” said Mel McGuire, Hanscom AFB civilian personnel officer. “DHA allows us to expedite the hiring process efficiently before the candidate loses interest or accepts an offer somewhere else.”

DHA enables agencies with a critical hiring need or shortage of candidates to hire any qualified applicant without the requirements of competitive rating and ranking, veterans’ preference and other hiring practices.

The event brought key hiring managers and authorities together to interview candidates and extend tentative job offers with projected salaries and hiring bonuses within the same day.

“I was impressed to see how efficient the process can be with everyone focused on their hiring tasks without outside distractions,” McGuire said. “It allowed us the ability to work quickly through the different aspects of the process.”

Approximately 75% of the vacancies were filled, and officials were pleased with the high-quality candidates who attended the fair and its overall success.

“It’s a great collaborative effort that brings new talent into Team Hanscom in a shorter timeframe than traditional hiring,” McGuire said. “We’ll continue to build upon best practices and lessons learned to make the next event even more successful.”

Hanscom AFB’s next hiring event is tentatively scheduled for June 2025.

AFLCMC is actively recruiting for positions in program management, contracting, engineering, financial management, human resources, information technology and cyber security, information protection and logistics at its nine locations across the United States.
