HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Runners will have an opportunity to compete in a half marathon on base this summer.
Registration for the Hanscom AFB half marathon is open through May 31 and is limited to the first 250 runners. The $20 fee includes a race bib, T-shirt and finisher medal.
“For many people, running a half or full marathon is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement,” said Airman 1st Class Esther Bedrosian, race coordinator. “We want to give runners the opportunity to race where they live or work at a reasonable price.”
The race will take place July 10, beginning and ending at the fitness center. The course will run along the Battle Trail through Minuteman National Historical Park.
There are no formal training opportunities for the 13.1-mile run, but Bedrosian said runners can contact her or Stephen Strosser, Operational Support Team strength and conditioning specialist, for advice. A running group hosted by the OST meets at the track Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m.
Non-runner volunteers are needed for setup and breakdown the day before and day of the race. Units can also “adopt” hydration stations along the course.
“We would like units to turn the fuel stations into cheer zones,” Bedrosian said. “They can make posters, play music and create a community vibe.”
Runners and volunteers can register online or at the Hanscom AFB Sports and Fitness Center through May 31.
