HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The 66th Security Forces Squadron will commemorate National Police Week here May 11-15 with a series of installation-wide events.
National Police Week was established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962 as a nationwide event to honor law enforcement officers who were disabled or died in the line of duty.
“The slogan of most police agencies is to serve and protect,” said Tech. Sgt. Andrew Hirschberg, 66th Security Forces Squadron noncommissioned officer in charge of reports and analysis. “For the officers who served and gave their lives, I think it’s important to remember and appreciate what their sacrifice means.”
Events scheduled for Hanscom AFB Police Week include:
- Monday, May 11 - An opening ceremony begins at 8 a.m. at building 1725, followed by the 24-hour Remembrance Ruck March at 9 a.m. at the base track. A candlelight vigil will take place outside building 1725 at 7 p.m.
