Chief Master Sgt. Jason Vollmer, installation command chief here since July 2024, will soon depart for his next assignment at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

As he prepares for his new role as 88th Air Base Wing command chief, he’s grateful to those who supported Col. Jorge Jimenez’s goals of improving readiness and customer service.

“The 66th Air Base Group has done amazing things,” he said. “We successfully conducted the biggest readiness exercise in installation history, we have a top-notch Ready Airman Training program, and our A-plus customer service, being there for people, helps make this place a great place to live and work.”

The chief said he leaned on his prior Air Force assignments to prepare him for the role of command chief. He has served as a military training instructor, first sergeant, and senior enlisted leader.

“My experiences have prepared me to lead and help people,” said Vollmer. “Everyone, whether they're a civilian, contractor, officer or enlisted, can encounter locked doors, and I do my best to help them find the key, to get at what they want to get accomplished.”

In response to what he most enjoyed about his assignment here, Vollmer pointed to the people.

“There is a sense of pride among those who work here, and I feel that our personnel consistently punch well above their weight class,” he said. “I would put our people up against anyone else in the Air Force.”

Vollmer added he feels the community genuinely cares for one another, describing Hanscom AFB as a close-knit installation where people have each other’s backs.

“The senior enlisted leaders, the first sergeants, the commanders, the commanders action group, the executive team, they’re amazing people that have really helped me succeed here,” he said. “I’m grateful to them for taking care of me and for welcoming me and my family.”

Chief Master Sgt. Daniel Anderson will take the reins in June.

“Chief Anderson will be a fantastic addition to Team Hanscom,” said Vollmer. “He truly cares about Airmen.”

His advice to Anderson, “The people of Team Hanscom are awesome. Give them what they need and get out of their way.”
