Hanscom Warrior CrossFit officials will host a Murph workout at the Sports and Fitness Center May 23 at 9:30 a.m.

The event honors Navy Seal Lt. Michael Murphy, a Medal of Honor recipient who was killed in action while trying to establish radio communications.

“It’s a really good way for everybody to come together and pay tribute as one,” said Steve Eaton, Hanscom Warrior CrossFit head trainer and organizer for the event.

The Murph is traditionally held on Memorial Day, and HWCF’s workout is being held on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend to provide more people with the opportunity to participate.

“As a military affiliate, it's important for us to honor the service and sacrifice of those who came before us and gave their lives,” said Eaton.

The workout consists of a one-mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 air squats and a final one-mile run.

Some participants choose to wear a weighted vest to simulate body armor. Male participants are allowed a 20-pound vest, while female participants are authorized a 14-pound vest.

“Show up, sweat for the community and honor those who have fallen,” said Eaton. “Make some new friends, reconnect with old ones. It's a great event every year.”

The event is open to anyone with base access.

Participants should arrive at the Sports and Fitness center’s warrior training room by 9 a.m. to prepare for a prompt 9:30 a.m. start time.

The Hanscom Warrior CrossFit is a private organization and official CrossFit affiliate. The Murph is part of the Hanscom Fit Challenge.
