HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Lt. Col. Susan Ng assumed command of Detachment 7, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, during an assumption of command ceremony at the Minuteman Commons here July 7.
The ceremony was officiated by Col. Chadwick Steipp, AFLCMC deputy commander, who emphasized the unique role the detachment plays within the Air Force acquisition enterprise and the command structure.
“The role is of such importance that we’ve made modifications in how we conduct our commands,” said Steipp. “What that means is we give the command authorities to other parts of our organization. In this case, Detachment 7 has that responsibility and authority to execute as a commander.”
Unlike traditional Air Force units, AFLCMC organizes its acquisition workforce differently to allow portfolio acquisition executives, senior materiel leaders and program managers to focus on developing, acquiring and sustaining weapon systems.
In her role, Ng will support more than 500 Airmen assigned to AFLCMC Program Acquisition Executive organizations at Hanscom AFB, providing leadership, accountability and support for the workforce while partnering closely with acquisition leaders across the installation.
Ng succeeds Lt. Col. Yaira Navarro-Samshair, who commanded Det. 7 before relinquishing command last month.
Steipp said Ng’s career experience and familiarity with Hanscom AFB positions her well to lead the organization.
Ng, who has twice served in roles on base, said she is honored to lead the detachment and looks forward to supporting the installation’s acquisition mission.
“I’m so excited to support, in partnership with all of our materiel leaders and senior materiel leaders, more than 500 AFLCMC Airmen as they deliver capabilities into the hands of our operators,” Ng said.
