HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – A first-of-its-kind half-marathon was held here July 10.
The 13.1-mile course began at the Fitness and Sports Center and extended off base through Minute Man National Historical Park. The event drew 138 participants from across the installation, including active-duty members, civilians, reservists and dependents.
“This was a chance for runners of all stages and from all organizations to gather together and experience the first of hopefully many races,” said Senior Airman Esther Bedrosian, event organizer.
Thomas Bovino was the top overall and top male finisher with a time of 1 hour, 34 minutes, 22 seconds.
2nd Lt. Kaitlyn Elliott was the top female finisher with a time of 1 hour, 47 minutes, 25 seconds.
Bedrosian noted the excitement and camaraderie among runners and volunteers helped make the race a success.
Preparations are in the works for the next half-marathon planned for fall of 2027.
“Our goal is to make the event bigger and better each year and eventually open it to the public,” Bedrosian said.
For those seeking to continue participating in organized races on base, the 66th Force Support Squadron hosts 5K races at the Fitness and Sports Center.
