HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The 66th Security Forces Squadron will host its annual National Night Out event Friday, Aug. 21, from 5 to 9 p.m. on the field behind the 66th Medical Squadron.
The free event is open to anyone with base access and is designed to strengthen partnerships between military and civilian law enforcement agencies while building relationships with the Hanscom AFB community.
“It brings together residents, military personnel and law enforcement in a positive and cordial environment,” said Staff Sgt. Anthony Arroyo, 66 SFS National Night Out co-event organizer. “Working side-by-side at a community event strengthens communication and relationships between these agencies long before they ever need to coordinate on a real-world emergency."
Attendees can enjoy family-friendly entertainment, including interactive displays and demonstrations from military and civilian first responders.
The event will also feature food, bounce houses, games and other activities designed to bring families together while showcasing the capabilities of local emergency responders.
“The event strips away the daily barriers of checkpoints and patrols, allowing families and children to interact with the 66th Security Forces Squadron and local law enforcement in a friendly, supportive environment,” said Arroyo.
Established in August 1984, National Night Out has grown into a nationwide community-building campaign that promotes partnerships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve through neighborhood gatherings, block parties, cookouts and other events, according to the National Night Out website.
“Come out to celebrate with our defenders and local officers who keep us safe,” Arroyo said. “Let’s build a stronger and safer community.”
