I want to thank Team Hanscom for the warm reception my family and I have received. We are thrilled to be here. Your 66th Air Base Group is doing great things to support the Electronic Systems Center and all the members of the Hanscom family, and I am proud to lead the way.

An important part of our Hanscom family is the local community, and I already experienced some of the tremendous support we receive from them. Last week I had the chance to lead a team of some of our finest Airmen onto the field at Fenway Park for the Memorial Day Red Sox game. I also attended the joint Air Force Association and Association of Old Crows Scholarship Dinner the other night and watched as these great professional organizations provided thousands of dollars in tuition assistance to deserving Hanscom team members and their children.

In fact, throughout and all around Hanscom, I can see that there is a genuine sense of community and an ingrained culture of civility and professionalism -- and as base commander, I will strive to help maintain and even build upon that.

I am even more impressed with all of this because I know that this base community is going through a transition and is, like all bases, dealing with the effects of a constrained federal budget. I pledge to do my very best, in the midst of all this, to help ensure the sustained unity of Team Hanscom and to make sure we all continue to make this installation a wonderful place to live, work and play.

Again, my thanks to all of you who have been working hard to make that vision a reality.
