66 SFS joint training
HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. - (From right) Senior Airman John Reed, Airman 1st Class Edwin Torres, Airman 1st Class Ronald Ashley and Senior Airman Mark Cayer, all of the 66th Security Forces Squadron, train with the Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team Aug. 6 to learn methods for neutralizing an active shooter, which is a person with a weapon threatening themselves and others within a confined space. Trooper Jim Carmichael (far left), one of the trainers with the Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team, educates the Airmen on moving into and within the threat space using a diamond formation, where each member of the four-man team monitors a quarter of the 360-degree view around them. This is the second time the state trooper STOP Team conducted the training for the 66 SFS, which followed the same format as in March, combining classroom sessions with field exercises using Simunition rounds.
