ID card issued to Gold Star family member

Staff Sgt. Andrew Pierce, 66th Security Forces Squadron Resource protection NCO in charge, issues a Defense Biometrics Identification System ID to Kimberly Elizabeth Carlson-Benner, a Gold Star family member, at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., Sept. 6. Issuing DBIDS ID cards to Gold Star family members is part of an Air Force initiative that allows unescorted access to Air Force installations to visit buried loved ones, attend base events and stop by the Airman and Family Readiness Center for immediate and long-term emotional support. Carlson-Benner, the daughter of U.S. Air Force Capt. John Werner Carlson who was killed in Vietnam in 1966, is the first Gold Star family member to be issued a DBIDS card at Hanscom AFB.
