Their closest gas station is 30 miles away. The closest grocery store is nearly 90 minutes away. Yet, this is where these active duty and full-time Air National Guard Airmen want to serve.

Airmen from the 13th Space Warning Squadron at Clear Air Force Station, Alaska provide early missile warning to U.S. senior leaders should Russia, China or North Korea attempt to launch a missile.

The 13th SWS is a geographically separated unit from the 21st Space Wing at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

UPDATE: the tall wire fences have since been torn down to make way for new missions, and the golf-ball looking building is a historic deactivated warning system.
